Whether you ascend into the highlands of Hakone by rail, road, or a combination of both, you will soon find yourself immersed in lush forests. Along the switchbacks that lead up the steep slopes, the trees on either side are so close that they often stretch across the gap and embrace, forming a canopy overhead. As the road begins to flatten out, you will soon reach the famous susuki grass fields that give the region of Sengokuhara its name, ringed by forests that shift depending on the season from verdant green to fiery red to frosty white.

Despite the beauty and tranquility of the forests here, many travelers these days only get to see them through the window of a car or bus as they rush onward towards Lake Ashinoko or other destinations. Hot spring suite "Ibuki"

The large triangular window that spans the entire upper wall of the guest room frames the surrounding greenery, filling the space with natural light and creating an open, airy atmosphere. A substantial log pillar stands at the center of the room, bringing the feeling of the forest indoors.
Spend a leisurely afternoon curled up with a good book on the sofa, with the woods just beyond the window. As dusk falls, slip into your private hot spring bath and watch the forest change with the fading light.
It is a place to linger over unhurried conversations with someone special, leave the pace of everyday life behind, and simply take in the beauty of the natural surroundings. A deeply restorative stay awaits.

Wake Up to a Home-Cooked Breakfast Made with Seasonal Local Ingredients 

Your morning meal at Hakone Retreat Villa 1/f will be served at one of two on-site restaurants: WOODSIDE, which offers a Western-style breakfast, or Ryotei Hyoseki, a traditional Japanese restaurant. Designed as an elegant half-dome with expansive windows that welcome abundant natural light, WOODSIDE embraces its setting amid the surrounding forest. Ryotei Hyoseki draws on traditional Japanese aesthetics, with windows inspired by Japanese sliding doors that frame beautiful views of the woodland beyond. 

Savor the Flavors of the Season with an Exquisite Dinner (Additional Option) 

As an optional add-on available for an additional fee, dinner can be enjoyed at either WOODSIDE dining or Ryotei Hyoseki, depending on your preference. Set against the surrounding forest, both restaurants offer an elegant setting in which to enjoy an evening meal.

Breakfast

At WOODSIDE, breakfast is served buffet-style, with fresh fruit, delicately baked pastries, seasonal local vegetables, and a selection of hot dishes prepared before your eyes by the on-site chef.
At Ryotei Hyoseki, breakfast is served in the traditional Japanese style, featuring delicately grilled fish, steamed rice, savory miso soup, and an array of side dishes made with seasonal local ingredients.
Whichever you choose, take your time at the table and savor the flavors and aromas of a breakfast thoughtfully prepared to give your day a perfect start.

Dinner (Additional Option) 

At WOODSIDE dining, enjoy a multi-course “Wood-Fired Innovative” dinner featuring seasonal ingredients. By carefully controlling the type of wood and cooking temperature, the culinary team brings together traditional Japanese dashi, fermented elements, and global spices to draw out the natural flavors of each dish.

At Ryotei Hyoseki, located within the historic Hyosekikaku building on the Villa 1/f grounds, savor authentic seasonal kaiseki cuisine prepared with carefully selected ingredients and served in an elegant traditional setting overlooking the Japanese garden.
