She provided us so much backstory and history that it truly made the experience memorable. It felt like we got a behind the scenes look into Japanese culture and life of these young men. That detail really helps make the experience so much more memorable. I would highlight how close you are to the action. Lastly I would the exposure to the athletes once the practice was concluded. We are very grateful for this experience and would definitely look into additional Wabunka activities should we return to Japan on a future trip.

Fascinating, insightful and unmissable. Could not fault any of it, the whole experience was seamless. We were a little nervous that having a translator/guide at the sumo wrestling would make us stand out like a sore thumb, but she was so gracious and discreet. We loved every minute of this experience! The entire experience was so special! This felt very special because it was both an ancient and a living art - there is so much history to learn, but you are also able to see modern practitioners translate the knowledge and strategy of the generations that had come before them. Unlike anything else I’ve ever done! This experience was so much more than just a “sport” practice. The dedication and commitment of the wrestlers was just incredible. I have to admit that the most memorable moment was probably when one of the wrestlers almost fell onto my mom and the guide - and then so kindly came over after the training to check on them! We were so impressed by the strength and the gracefulness of the wrestlers. The guide was such a wealth of knowledge - we LOVED having the board she brought along to share our questions and for her to write observations throughout the training. She was an amazing guide and we had the best time. I would tell any friends coming to Tokyo to absolutely take this tour and to ask for her !
