Your drinks will be complemented by a selection of three side dishes crafted at Gion Shizuka under the supervision of Chef Sawada. After training at kaiseki restaurant Gion Maruyama, which received two Michelin stars, he achieved one-star status three years in a row as head chef at a Tokyo restaurant.

Chef Sawada channels his wealth of experience into Gion Shizuka’s cuisine
Chef Sawada recognizes the importance of balance: “A meal isn’t all about the food; I want to provide delicious food that not only accompanies, but also enhances sake.” Furthermore, he is conscientious about selecting seasonal ingredients that respect Kyoto’s cuisine and the guest’s preferences, regardless of their background.

To enjoy Gion Shizuka and Chef Sawada’s culinary delights on an even higher level, upgrade to a bento box of traditional treats or a special full course that will showcase the best of the current season as an optional add-on.
Captivating Geisha Dance, Singing, and Shamisen Accompaniment
When the geiko or maiko arrives, it’s time to immerse yourself in her uniquely enchanting entertainment, beginning with a graceful dance accompanied by the poignant notes of a jikata musician’s singing and shamisen.

Every elegant movement bewitches the eye
Admire the intricacies of her performance, enhanced by her seasonal clothing and accessories, up close. Geiko tend towards subtler attire indicating maturity, while a maiko’s ensemble is generally more vibrant and elaborate, expressing youth. Regardless of who is performing, her dance is sure to stay with you long after the final notes have sounded. For an even more luxurious experience, invite another geiko or maiko for an extra fee.

Traditional Party Games that are Sure to Make You Smile
Then, try your hand at ozashiki-asobi: traditional party games that have amused the patrons of geisha districts for generations. As you play, chat, and share drinks with these consummate entertainers, you are sure to gain a thorough appreciation for their utter skill and warm hospitality. Don’t forget to snap a photo as a memento of your time together.

Learn a traditional game like Konpira Funefune, which relies on following the ever-quickening rhythm of the geiko or maiko’s song
Superb Hospitality and Entertainment, the Kyoto Way
While the world of geiko and maiko may seem mysterious and impenetrable from the outside, Gion Shizuka is the perfect place to enjoy this quintessentially Kyoto culture up close, masterfully complemented by quality sake and cuisine. Step away from the bustle of busy Kyoto and indulge in this private experience for memories that will last a lifetime.
