Original 'Dyed Flowers' by Couture Flower Artisan Mutsuko Nakamura

Mutsuko Nakamura is a renowned couture flower artisan known for her work in weddings, solo exhibitions, and numerous fashion magazines. Her "dyed flowers" involve cutting fabric, carefully dyeing each piece, and sometimes layering hundreds of petals to create a single large flower. Every step is done by hand, with some pieces taking over five years to complete. By using various fabrics and dedicating immense time and effort, Nakamura creates delicate, three-dimensional flowers with unique nuances that can’t be found in fresh flowers. Her passion for her work attracts fans worldwide, with many international guests visiting her atelier to learn her techniques.

An atelier featuring chic, sophisticated pieces that highlight mature charm

Nakamura will handle the final touches to ensure a satisfying result, making it perfect for beginners. Enjoy creating a work of art in a stylish space surrounded by colorful flowers.

Nakamura Creates Original Fabric Flowers With Special Designs

Dyed flowers embody Nakamura's sensibility, principles, and life experiences. These flowers grow deeper and more charming with time, surpassing the allure of fresh blooms. For years, Nakamura has adorned brides at weddings, saying, "My flowers have unique colors and textures, allowing me to freely change their expression to highlight the bride's individuality, making her shine beautifully."

Example of the fabric flowers you'll create in this experience

Nakamura has created a unique design exclusively for this Wabunka experience. She draws inspiration from everything around her, including street fashion, nature, and food. "I focus on incorporating realistic elements and using fantastical colors to create flowers that don't exist in reality," she says.

Nakamura blends various dyes with her unique sensibility to create one-of-a-kind colors

Transforming Fabric From Flat to 3D

The creation of dyed flowers is guided by Nakamura's atelier staff. First, you cut the fabric along a pattern. Once the petals and leaves are formed, the dyeing process begins. Nakamura's dyes, curated based on her years of experience and aesthetic sense, produce unique and exquisite colors. A brush is used to apply a base color to the entire piece, followed by layering the petal color. Even with the same design, different ways of applying color can create varied looks, reflecting each artist's individuality.

The exquisite layering of colors creates a beautiful look

Once the colored fabric is dry, the next step is ironing. A heated iron is pressed against each petal to mimic the curves of real petals. This transforms the flat fabric into a lively, three-dimensional form. Depending on the flower design, the iron's tip can be replaced with the most suitable part.

As the iron gets very hot, handle with care

Nakamura Will Create a Design Tailored to Each Individual

After cutting, dyeing, and ironing, the petals are ready for the final touches. Combining them in a balanced way might seem a bit challenging, but don't worry, Nakamura will handle the final details. The finished fabric flower will be impeccably crafted.

Layer petals to form a single flower

You can take your completed fabric flower home the same day. Use it as a stylish interior piece or opt to turn it into a corsage or hair accessory by adding a brooch pin or comb. Nakamura will adjust the stem's length and angle according to your preferences. Whether deciding where to display it or which outfit to match it with, part of the fun is thinking it through.

You can also choose to turn it into a corsage. Wearing the finished piece instantly brightens your expression
